Bears ...

Children develop in the context of relationships and the environment around them.  This is unique to each family and reflects individual communities and cultures. Our Nursery Room caters for children from 18 months to 5 years but has been thoughtfully designed and equipped to cater for the needs of two distinct groups of children based on their age and stage of development.

Bears (3 to 5 year olds)

In order to ensure the children are prepared to go to school, our focus is on supporting the children to complete simple, everyday tasks much more independently.  With the support of a key person or staff member, the children will learn how to use the toilet and wash their hands, put on and take off their coats and shoes, use scissors and glue sticks, recognise their name in written form and begin to spell and write it.

It is also important that they develop a greater awareness of others around them and so the children engage in activities which focus on friendship and the importance of sharing and being helpful and kind.

Playing with Trains !
Each day, the children within their care will enjoy a number of different activities including:
  • A creative activity
  • A physical activity
  • An intellectual activity
  • An investigative activity
  • Circle time

Bears will learn through play and their curriculum is delivered through a theme-based approach which transcends all 7 areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage including the 3 prime areas of Personal Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development and the 4 specific areas including Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and finally Expressive Arts and Design.

Making your mark !

The work produced by the children is displayed to increase self-esteem and to promote the sharing of their individual achievements.  Themes and displays are changed on a regular basis to promote our partnership with parents/carers; we hope that you will contribute to our curriculum planning by providing us with information and photographs which show what your child enjoys doing at home so that our curriculum can be tailored to build on your child’s specific interests and abilities.
